Most Romantic Destinations in the World

Beccy Miller
Happy Valentine's Day! We thought we would take the opportunity to share some of our most romantic destinations with you.
Paris, France

Is it even a list of romantic cities, if we don’t mention the City of Love, Paris? Cosy up at a patisserie with a cup of coffee and do all the touristy things which never get old – explore the corridors of the Louvre, head up to Montmarte and enjoy the view from the Sacre Couer and then stroll along the Seine in the moonlight and have a glass of wine with the Eiffel Tower twinkling behind you.

Kyoto, Japan

Everyone thinks Tokyo when it comes to Japan, but we think Kyoto is where you should head to. It’s picture-perfect – with charming traditional wooden houses, imperial gardens and temples dotted around. Visit in the spring when there is an explosion of colour from the cherry blossom and you can wander around bamboo forests. Make sure you take a visit to Owariya – it is the oldest restaurant in Kyoto, dating back to 1465 and its speciality is soba noodles. The delicious broth they serve them with is made with fresh Kyoto spring water.

Istanbul, Turkey

The historic city of Istanbul, once the pearl of the Ottoman Empire is the perfect destination for couples who love culture, history and food, it offers the complete sensory experience. Make sure to visit sites like the Hagia Sophia, dating back to 537 AD and the stunning Blue Mosque, before taking a trip to the Grand Bazaar. This is worlds oldest and largest covered market and you can easily lose hours browsing the stalls, searching for the perfect memento of your romantic getaway.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

The sexy and sultry dance of the Tango originated in Argentina and the city of Buenos Aires offers plenty of romance. Stroll through the El Rosedal park, the city rose garden and wander around the 18,000 rose bushes the garden boasts. Then grab dinner in the Puerto Madero district before heading to Teatro Colon – one of the worlds most breathtaking theatres. Finish off by heading to the district of La Boca, where the tango was born and try your hand at it yourself.

Santorini, Greek Islands

Officially known as the Greek islands of Thira, few have been photographed quite as much as this. The caldera is said to be the location for the mythical lost city of Atlantis, but climb up to one of the picture-postcard villages like Oia -  with its sugar-cube like white house and brightly coloured roofs – and you will be rewarded with the most breathtaking views, especially as the sunsets. It’s a popular wedding destination these days and it’s not hard to see why.

Venice, Italy

Italy is full of romantic destinations; we could offer a top ten in this country alone, but whilst Rome and Florence are high on that list, Venice has to pip it when it comes to it’s romantic credentials. Snuggle up in a gondola and be serenaded as you navigate scenic canals. Have candlelit dinner along the canal and then enjoy an evening of opera at Musica a Palazzo – an entertaining evening in an old Venetian Palace where you follow the music from room to room.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

The gorgeous city of Dubrovnik may look familiar if you were a fan of the TV show, Game of Thrones, as it's medieval-era Old Town served as Kings Landing. The Old Town is a walled city, and from above (you and your loved one can walk the 1.3-mile stretch some 80 feet above ground level for spectacular views) it is reminiscent of Venice, just on a smaller scale (and with marble alleyways instead of canals). Like the Italian city, which lies just to the northwest, Old Town Dubrovnik is free of vehicular traffic and dotted with Renaissance churches and fountains, with a rich history as a trading port. In lieu of canals, you'll find narrow, cobblestone streets where couples can stroll from shop to shop, dine and drink at alfresco cafes and soak up the sun.

Reykjavik, Iceland

The capital of Iceland has enjoyed a surge in popularity in recent years and we’re not surprised. Many of the activities on offer are perfect for couples. From taking a trip to the geothermal springs of the Blue Lagoon, dive and swim between tectonic plates separating continents or cosy up and go in search of the wonderful Northern Lights.
